Inter have none to blame but themselves

It was a must-win game for the Serie A toppers at present. In front of the crowd, Inter only needed to display a bit more relentlessness as Liverpool did against Salzburg. Like Inter, Liverpool wasted opportunities too but maintained their intent to win and reaped a rich harvest.

Inter just needed to match at least Borussia Dortmund's result against Slavia Prague due to being level on seven points before the game started. Dortmund emerged as the ultimate winners by 2-1, while Inter were left pondering about the opportunities wasted.

Barcelona surfaced a different side - there was no Lionel Messi. It was a young side, which faced the challenge of Serie A topper at Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan.

The start of Inter was inspiring. They attacked and created chances, which saw Romelu Lukaku scoring earlier, but it was disallowed. Then a close-range effort was deflected by Clement Lenglet. Clearly, Inter were in control, but Barcelona got a foot on the paddle when Perez gave the visitors the lead in the 23rd minute - seeping the ball home after Diego Godin deflected Antoine Griezmann's pass to forward.

Lukaku equalized soon. At the stroke of half-time, the Belgian drilled home after a brilliant hold-up play by Lautaro Martinez on the edge of the box. And that was it. Since then Lukaku had been wasteful. In a one-to-one play, he shot straight at Neto. Martinez thought he bagged a late winner, but Lukakau was in an offside position.

Then Ansu Fati struck gold to dash Inter's dreams. he became the youngest ever player in the history of Champions League to score a goal. Barcelona won and knocked Inter out of the tournament. they would feature in the Europa League and Luke Shaw, the defender of Manchester United was quick to take a dig at Lukaku on Twitter. You have to digest such it when you lose a chance at your own den.
