George Baldock's slip allowed Andy Robertson to possess
Virgil van Dijk's long ball again before finding Mohamed Salah who fired past
Dean Henderson. 1-0 to Liverpool and the clock showed just 3 and a half minutes
have gone.
The Reds started from where they left off in 2019 –
relentless fashion. The relentless red machine continued to press throughout
the first half hinting of a goal feast. Despite the lack of steam in second and
a solid display by Manchester United-owned goalkeeper Dean Henderson, Liverpool
remained dominant. Sadio Mane ensured that Sheffield United does not dare to
challenge and 2-0 was enough to maintain the unbeaten run – a feat, which
Chelsea and Arsenal relished during their golden era.
It was a match where Salah smashed a unique record - the
Egyptian has scored against 22 of the 25 different sides he has faced in the
Premier League since joining the reigning European champions from AS Roma. He
has only failed to score against Manchester United, Swansea and Aston Villa.
Salah’s opener was the earliest goals scored by the Anfield
giants and conceded by the Blades in this term’s league. Also, it was the
earliest Chris Wilder’s team has let in a top-flight match since Andriy
Shevchenko for Chelsea in March 2007.
Liverpool faced lively opponents in Leicester, Wolves and
Sheffield United, all teams in excellent form, yet each obstacle was cleared,
with this third win of the series restoring a 13-point lead at the top of the
table with a game in hand.
There Is no stopping to Jurgen Klopp’s men. In each match
they dish out their style to outweighed opponents of different criteria. Be it
the title contenders or giant-killers, Liverpool just know how to overcome
various challenges. The Reds are not so far from becoming one of the legendary
teams in the history of club football.
