Sergeant Ronald Koeman?

Ronald Koeman left the job of his national team – Netherlands – and landed on Camp Nou to manage a club, where, right now, things are quite messy. There lacks huge coordination between the players, coaching staffs, and higher officials. In the last few months or so, the club witnessed two coaches leave with eggs on their faces and a lot of drama to hide the failures and disgrace.

Koeman, who represented Barcelona in the 90s and was the vital cog behind their first-ever Champions League title in 1992, tried to sound tough and until now he has maintained the same in front of press and activities. Of course, during his playing days, Koeman had been a hard nut to crack and he always tried to inject the same as a manager – but with minimal success in managerial roles.

Koeman won’t give up his style though and his discipline and toughness have been evident in the training of Barcelona.

Barcelona's training sessions haven't been up to standard for some time.

Various players complained about the intensity levels of sessions once they'd left the club, which explains performances against the likes of Bayern Munich and Liverpool.

One of Koeman's priorities when landing at the Camp Nou has been to get the team training as if their lives depended on it.

He's extended sessions from a duration of one hour to 90 minutes and increased the intensity of those sessions too.

Koeman wants to emphasize increasing the work rate and intensity, but his demands seem to exhaust the players – especially the older ones.

According to Marca, “ There is already talk of Sergeant Koeman within the dressing room - the players aren't sure whether they're going to be successful this season, but they do know that they'll have to run.”

“Koeman's arrival has also coincided with a change in disciplinary standards - something which had also been slipping at Barcelona in recent years.”

“All players are required to turn up at the Sant Joan Despi facilities one hour before training starts so that they're ready for work.”

“If training starts at 9:30, Koeman wants his players out on the training pitches at 9:30 on the dot.”

There is no delay in starting the training sessions.

There is a minimum opportunity to breathe easily.

Then, Koeman is emphasizing on injecting the respect culture within the team.

One player has already caught his attention after talking while he was explaining a drill.

Only time will tell whether this Koeman way would be fruitful in the future.
