Even a die-hard fan of Chelsea did not expect the Blues to
fare well against the German Giants and at the end of the match, their thoughts
not just came true but they witnessed the German Giants make Stamford Bridge
their training ground. It was a clinical display from Bayern who simply gunned
down the Blues in front of their home crowd – no mercy shown!
From the word go, Bayern had been electrifying - Willy
Caballero, retaining his place at the expense of Kepa Arrizabalaga faced the
heat in the first minute when he kept out a strike from Thomas Muller. Muller
turned the provider 10 minutes later with a brilliant exchange of passes with
Kingsley Coman, who sliced wide, while Caballero twice denied Robert
Lewandowski. Then the bar came to Chelsea's rescue from a Muller header.
Bayern were in a red-hot mood as they continuously pressed
and tested the backline of Chelsea and more often the defence of the Blues
melted.
The German Machine continued their attack - Lewandowski
squaring for the supporting Gnabry to side-foot home. Then the second goal came
soon as Lewandowski and Gnabry combined once more for the latter to
slot into the bottom-right corner. Gnabry could have had his third before
the hour only to hammer over on the volley.
Serge Gnabry is the first player in Champions League history
to score each of his first six goals in the competition all against sides from
the same nation – 4 against Tottenham Hotspur and 2 against Chelsea.
Frank Lampard’s side were looking to recover from the
consistent attack of German Giants but they ere left clueless and were done and
dusted. The brilliant Alphonso Davies teed up with Lewandowski for his 11th
Champions League goal of the season, with Alonso then seeing red after a VAR
check for violent conduct.
This 19-year old left-back from Canada Alphonso Davies is a
talent to watch. He terrified he Chelsea defence with his pace and his decision
making earned a lot of accolades. Then his ability to drop down quickly and
manage the defence was impressive as well. Ask mason Mount how was he checked
by Davies – sprinted back muscled the ball away from him.
Chelsea missed N’Golo Kante in their midfield badly as the
duo of Marco Alonso and Jorginho failed to hold things up and Bayern fed on
their lack of coordination. Bayern found plenty of spaces in the midfield and,
with quick wingers and one of the best strikers in the world, Bayern would
crush you!
Bayern love playing in London, don’t they?
In its last 7 away matches against English teams, Bayern
have won thrice, all in London. In those 3 matches, the Bavarians have scored
15 times, which is is simply staggering! At this stage of the 2016-17
Champions League Bayern thrashed Arsenal 5-1 on their own turf and in the group
stages of this season’s Champions League they smashed 7 goals in Tottenham’s net.
Bayern could have scored more and more, but a 3-0 victory
seemed enough to jolt the Blues. It would be hard for Chelsea to bounce back at
Allianz Arena. In front of their own crowd, Bayern Munich won’t spare the Blues
at all but would carry on from where they left at Stamford Bridge. To make
matters worse, Marcos Alonso and Jorginho will both miss the second leg through
suspension.
