Australia v West Indies, 3rd Test, Day 1 - The West Indies were not all out

The West Indies were looking good at 104 for 1. Kraigg Brathwaite and Darren Bravo hinted that this Caribbean team is improving and learning from their mistakes. But as soon as Bravo was out, the old menace of sudden-collapses intervened.

Marlon Samuels’ nightmrish tour continued as he was run out in a pretty weird manner, Blackwood misjudged a Lyon delivery and walked towards the pavilion and when Brathwaite missed another opportunity to notch up a hundred, West Indies were in trouble at 158 for 5. A few moments later, the score became 159 for 6 as Jason Holder became O’Kefee’s first home Test wicket.

The West Indian fans have been so familiar with such collapses, but thankfully, their innings didn’t fold as Denesh Ramdin and Carlos Brathwaite arrested the collapse and at stumps the Windies were 207 for 6.

The Sydney track offered turn from the first day and it can test the Australian batters as well had the West Indies have quality in the spin department. Jomel Warrican’s performance was satisfactory in Sri Lankan but does he have the guile and skill to test the might of the Australian batsmen? He should watch how Natha Lyon bowled today and learn from that.
