A lot of fun for Bayern Munich

Last year, in DFB-Pokal, Bayern Munich were beaten on penalties by Bundesliga 2 side Holstein Kiel in the second round. The plan to lift the title came to a premature end, and this season, the plan is the same. And, guess what, whenever they think they are having a lot of fun out there, it becomes a nightmare for the opposition – Barcelona experienced the same at Lisbon and yesterday, Bremer SV were reduced to a school side.

Bremer qualified for the DFB Cup for the 10th time in their history by virtue of winning the Bremen Cup last season. They have previously come up against giants in Borussia Dortmund in 1979 and Eintracht Frankfurt in 2015, but this time around they faced the competition’s most successful club – Bayern Munich.

Before the start of the match, Julian Naglesmann said, “It’s about knowing what the opponent has planned. It goes without saying they’ll play differently than they do in the league. They want to get promoted so definitely play in a more attacking way. They have players with special abilities. Above all, it’s about the target men.”

While Benjamin Eta, the manager of Bremer SV, said, “We have a lot of little goals. You should be able to see that we can play football. We want to be bold and brave, fair but also aggressive against the ball, and work hard. We want the game to be exciting. We’ll be able to take a lot from this game that we’ll hold onto forever.”

But as the match started it turned out to be an exhibition match where a bunch of big boys were playing against the school kids. Once Bayern Munich opened the scoring, the floodgates opened and the flow of water washed away Bremer into a distant site, where agony existed.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scored four as Bayern Munich thumped fifth-tier Bremer SV 12-0 in the German Cup first round for their biggest win in 24 years.

Choupo-Moting opened the scoring after eight minutes before Jamal Musiala grabbed the first of his two goals.

An own goal was added to by strikes from Malik Tillman, Leroy Sane, Michael Cuisance, Bouna Sarr and Corentin Tolisso as Bayern clocked up 37 shots.

It is Bayern's biggest win since 1997 when they beat DJK Waldberg 16-1.

It doesn’t matter who you’re playing against, a 12-0 win must feel good where everyone had a chance to make an impact, especially some young players and some players who are on the verge of leaving. Like Sarr, Tolisso, Richards, and Cuisance. Also, this is a red alarm for other teams in Europe because, in the Champions League, Bayern are expected to be at their ruthless best.
