France didn’t huff and puff last night and the natural order
of a mega event has been restored. It will be a France v Germany semifinal and
those who are well aware about the history of football will certainly realize
how iconic this clash has been over the years.
Still, France’s defensive fragility were evident, even
though not fully exposed. This chink needs to be ironed out against Germany who
have an edge over the French since 1982. But the French team were brilliant
last night and never let Iceland to settle and plan for another upset.
But the Iceland team and its fans were not upset at all,
even after such a humiliating defeat. This team is already a legend in the
history of Iceland’s football. The passion of their fans, the determination of
the team and their post-match celebration with their team had been one of the
most abiding memories of this year’s Euro. Iceland have given us enough fun.
