It would be fair to say, Roma were the better side and
deserving winners. The game was decided via penalties, but it should not have
been such if Roma were able to utilize the opportunities as the defence of Real
was found wanting more often.
Real Madrid's scorers were two defenders - Marcelo and
Casemiro, which indicates how badly they need someone like Neymar who can not
only score but marshall the whole game. Neymar would surely give Real the
X-factor, which they are lacking at the moment.
Their defence, as usual, was at sixes and sevens and the
time has come to think beyond the current crop of defenders. They need solidity
at the back. Casemiro can't be the saviour in each and every match. It was for
him, Roma could not finish the game by normal time.
Even a 5-3-2 is not working for them and it would not work
until and unless you shun relying too much on an individual who is not CR7 and
not try to create moments. The forecast for upcoming season is not looking
good.
