Barcelona does not enjoy playing in the Northern part of
Spain and it was poved yet again in the crucial match against Celta Vigo.Even
though Barca looked a tad better than their opponents, but there was a certain
amount of shakinnes within the team, which cost them dearly.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen arrived at Balaidos with a previous
record of 10 goals conceded in 3 matches at the stadium. The German did his
best to prevent history from repeating itself but the shaky Barcelona wall
couldn't keep Iago Aspas' freekick out.
Just when Nolito looked like he would win the game for Celta
in injury time, Ter Stegen leapt across his goal line to save Barcelona from
defeat.
Barcelona were unlucky not have scored at the five-minute
mark and a Messi corner kick met the charging forehead of Gerard Pique, only to
see the ball bank hard off the crossbar.
After another few chances to score, Suarez was able to break
the deadlock by taking advantage of some poor defending from Celta. Suarez was
totally unmarked.
Celta looked to respond right away and after an Aspas chance
that was cleared by Jordi Alba, Okay set up Brais Mendez with a gilt-edged
chance, but the shot deflected off the hand of Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre
ter Stegen and then glanced off the post.
Meanwhile, Celta looked determined enough in the second
half, and Ivan Rakitic was at fault for Fyodor Smolov's equalizer, giving the
ball away in midfield when there was no pressure on him.
With a half-hour to go, Barcelona were staring at a
potentially fatal drop of two points in their title race with Real and were in
desperate need of a goal. Suarez would answer the call when the Blaugrana won a
ball back deep in the hosts' area, with Messi slipping a pass into the former
Liverpool man, who spun and fired into net to take the lead.
Lionel Messi did set up two goals, but but he should've
scored one of his own towards the end of the first half. He found himself in a
glorious position on the edge of the box but could only guide his shot over the
crossbar.
In the end, Braca did drop points and left to rue about their
shakiness.
