Before the match started with players taking a knee in
support of Black Lives Matter. For Tottenham Hotspur a victory was much needed
to keep the hopes alive for qualifications in next season’s Champions League. Things
were going according to his plan.
Steve Bergwijn gave the Spurs the lead within 27 minutes,
but as the match grew older, Manchester United started to dictate the game.
In the second half, the Reds played much better and were
rewarded. Paul Pogba - on as a substitute as he returned after a long injury
lay-off - producing a burst into the box that tempted a rash challenge from Eric
Dier.
Fernandes showed excellent composure to fire home from 12
yards out, sending Hugo Lloris the wrong way, as the visitors extended their
unbeaten run in all competitions to 12 games.
It appeared the Portuguese would have the chance to score
again from the spot when referee Jonathan Moss adjudged he had been fouled by
Dier in the 90th minute, but a VAR check reversed the on-field call.
The return of Pogba at his best should be a great thing for
Manchester United. His control over the ball and commendable effort at the
center of the park made United look a completely different team in the second
period.
Perhaps, the presence of Mourinho reignited Pogba to deliver
his best, but whatever it is, Pogba was hugely missed. It was good to see him
fit and playing well.
