In the second half, Barcelona won a penalty against Atletico
Madrid. Lionel Messi stepped up to take the penalty. His fans were waiting for
the 700-goal landmark. Whether Barcelona win or not, the records of Messi mean
a lot for them. Messi scripted a panenka penalty and bagged the landmark.
After scoring from the penalty spot, he went to the left
side of Atleti’s goal and twisted his fingers in front of the camera like
Thanos, the notorious villain of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, conveying the
message, “I am inevitable”.
But, Saul Niguez, Thomas Partey, and Yannick Carrasco
proved, he is not such as Barca dropped points yet again!
Meanwhile, at Stadio Luigi Ferraris, Juventus were playing
their away match against Genoa.
Since losing the Italian Cup final to Napoli in a penalty
shootout, Juventus have won all three of their league games since the restart.
Paulo Dybala opened the scoring shortly after the break by
evading three defenders before firing in a low shot that Genoa goalkeeper
Mattia Perin, on loan from Juve, could only get a weak hand on.
Seven minutes later, In typical Ronald- fashion, Cristiano
picked up the ball just inside the opposition half, drove at the defence, and
lashed the ball into the top corner from 25 yards. The mighty CR7 bagged 24
goals from 25 Serie A matches.
Then substitute Douglas Costa made it 3-0 by curling in a
shot from beyond the area inside the far post as Genoa’s defence looked on
helplessly, with Andrea Pinamonti effort from a tight angle a mere consolation.
But the talk of the town is CR7’s thunderous strike and one
must not forget, Cristiano Ronaldo took his place among the 700-Club last
October, with a goal for Portugal on a consolation strike from the penalty spot
in a 2-1 Euro 2020 qualifying defeat against Ukraine.
Cristiano Ronaldo is still the world’s highest-scoring
active player and the one still plying his trade who has scored more than
Messi.
Messi with his celebration showed us, he is inevitable like
Thanos, but after scoring a jaw-dropping goal last night, CR7 might have
replied, “I am Iron Man”!
