West Indies v India, 2nd Test, Jamaica, Day 2 - What's wrong with Cheteshwar Pujara?

Something is wrong with Cheteshwar Pujara! His painstaking knock was tough to digest on a track which was not impossible to score runs. But he made it look the most difficult task in the world as soon as he took a strike and the way he was run out, it earned him no respect. Pujara’s dull show was the talk of the social media rather than KL Rahul’s hundred and the defensive approach of West Indies.

In my opinion, Pujara is suffering from the lack of confidence. He has the technique and shots to fetch runs for his team, but at the back of his mind something is blocking him immensely. Deep down, he is afraid to use his bat to score runs. Spending time at the crease is good, but it should not be a matter of joke on good tracks. If Sabina Park was like Pallekele or Leeds, one would have understood the reason.

Anil Kumble and co should talk to Pujara about what is holding back to play his natural game. Or, what should he do to get out from this critical phase. It’s hard to find classic batsmen these days and I rate Pujara highly. He should not get lost in the long run. It’s a competitive world and Pujara should realize the same. There are others in the pipeline to fill his spot.

Thank You
