How good was Philippe Coutinho’s goal last night? In one
word, it was magical. In a high voltage game, when your team is under pressure,
you need a moment of magic to come back into the track in style. Coutinho, the
Brazilian boy, did just that for Liverpool when the chips were down.
Coutinho received the ball on the left side, not so further
high up the Manchester United half, and then used his low centre of gravity to
completely wrong foot Guillermo Varela before rounding him up to drive at the
goalkeeper. David de Gea rushed into lessen the space between him and Coutinho,
but the Brazilian chipped the ball over a stunned De Gea as if he was playing
beach futbol in Sao Paolo – simply eye-catching stuff.
Coutinho gave us another brilliant moment to remember when
he managed to get the ball off Marouane Fellaini as Manchester United tried to
break forward. He went on to dribble past three Manchester United defenders in
a row before choosing to pass rather than dribble past the fourth. I hope
Carlos Dunga had witnessed this.
Manchester United built the pressure well and their lead should have given them more momentum as in my opinion, the Liverpool midfield was not well organized last night. But sadly, they kept on losing their grip
Liverpool needs to sort out their midfield. Had there been
no Coutinho magic, things might have been different last night.
