Australia v New Zealand, 1st Test, Day 3 - Kane Williamson's hundred overshadowed by Warner and Burns' brutal display

Amid the brutal and commanding display of David Warner and Joe Burns, Kane Williamson produced one of the most classic hundreds ever scored at the Gabba in recent times. Sadly, he received little support from the other end and again, this reminds us the importance of the supporting-role-players in cricket as because without the support of such fighters many epics would never have been possible to script.

But Williamson’s heroic was overshadowed by the merciless batting display of Warner and Burns. Burns brought up his maiden Test ton while Warner became just the third batsman in history to thrice register hundreds in each innings of a Test match.

He joined Ricky Ponting and Sunil Gavaskar in posting back-to-back hundreds on three occasions in Tests, and his 14th hundred in 44 matches puts him level with batting greats Michael Slater (74 Tests) and Ian Chappell (75) on the all-time Australian century-makers list.  Only 15 players now sit above him on that list, all of them household names, but none excepting Sir Donald Bradman boast a ratio to match the 29-year-old’s 5.92 innings per hundred.
