Australia v New Zealand, 1st Test, Day 1 - Electrifying Australia!

Brendon McCullum packed the offside field for David Warner and engaged his two lethal weapons, Tim Southee and Trent Boult to nail Warner. But what happened was, both of them failed to pitch the ball back-of-a-length and move it away but pitched it more often on a short-of-a-length, a bit full and midway between half-volley and good length. What can a captain do if your bowlers fail to respond according to the captain’s idea? Warner found his rhythm back and simply mauled the Kiwi attack.

Joe Burns was shaky, but as soon he stepped down the wicket and lofted Mark Craig over extra-cover for three runs, he discovered himself on the front foot and since then his bat scripted flurry of strokes and helped Warner to stitch a cracking opening stand. McCullum utilized Craig more, but with lesser effects.

Warner kept on blasting the New Zealand attack and Usman Khawaja joined the party from the word go. No nerves, no stiff legs as Usman’s fluent stroke-play justified his selection in the team. Steve Smith is still there and Australia at the moment are 389 for 2. Well, McCullum and his men have plenty of things to worry about.
