The hero of the day had been Alastair Cook and Jonny
Bairstow. Lord’s was looking gorgeous with bright sunshine and in front of a
packed house, the Sri Lankan medium-fast bowlers set jitters in the English top
order, but the skipper stayed firm and kept on plucking runs at will. I just
feel, the Lankan pacers didn’t bowl the right line to Cook – too many balls
were pitched on the middle-and-leg-stump line and such deliveries are a gift
for a top order batsman. Cook fetched runs easily.
Cook’s wicket gave the Lankans the ascendency, but these days Jonny Bairstow’s bat is blooming flowers. Yet again, he proved to be a sting in the tail and notched up his third Test hundred on a sun-kissed track at Lord’s. Son, you are on thehonours board now!
Jonny’s purple patch has been due to his straight bat and doesn’t stand still too longat the crease as soon as the ball is released from the hand. The
initial trigger movement is quite quicker than many of his colleagues. The
combination of a straight bat and a slightly quicker initial trigger movement
allows him to reach the pitch of the ball a bit earlier and execute his stroke
with pristine timing. It’s not always easy to execute strokes by maintaining
the balance between them, but when you can maintain, you do reap a rich
harvest.
Thank You
